What Makes It Different

Six things that separate true inset from everything else.

Feature

True Inset Construction

Every door and drawer front is precision-milled to sit flush inside the face frame opening — not overlaid on top of it. The result is a flat, seamless cabinet face that looks like furniture, not flat-pack.

Feature

Solid Wood Face Frames

The face frame is built from solid hardwood — hard maple, white oak, walnut, or cherry — with structural dado joinery at every corner. No finger-jointed pine, no MDF, no shortcuts.

Feature

Precision-Milled Door Profiles

Shaker profiles are routed on a CNC — not hand-routed with a jig. That means every rail, stile, and panel is dimensionally identical across the entire run, from the first cabinet to the last.

Feature

Furniture-Grade Gap Tolerance

Inset doors require tight, consistent reveals — typically 1/16" on all four sides. We hold that tolerance across every door in the run, so the gap lines are even and the doors close flush every time.

Feature

Concealed Soft-Close Hinges

Every inset door is hung on premium concealed hinges with full soft-close. No exposed hinge barrels, no slam — just a clean close that looks and sounds like quality.

Feature

Works Across Any Cabinet

Inset shaker doors aren't just for kitchens. We build them for bathroom vanities, closet built-ins, mudroom lockers, media centers, and laundry rooms — any cabinet where the look matters.

Common Questions

Inset Shaker Door FAQ

What's the difference between inset and overlay cabinet doors? +

Overlay doors sit on top of the face frame — the frame is mostly hidden behind the door. Inset doors sit inside the face frame opening, flush with the front. Inset is harder to build and more expensive, but it looks like furniture rather than cabinetry. It's the standard on high-end custom work.

Are inset shaker doors more expensive than overlay? +

Yes — inset construction requires tighter tolerances, more precise milling, and more time to hang and adjust. But the result is a fundamentally different quality level. If you're already investing in custom cabinetry, inset doors are the right finish for that investment.

Can inset shaker doors be painted? +

Yes. We deliver doors primed and ready for paint, or finished in a natural wood species of your choice. Painted inset shaker in white or off-white is the most popular finish we do — it's a classic look that holds up over time.

Do inset doors work in a humid environment like a bathroom? +

Yes, with the right wood species and finish. We select and seal materials appropriate for the environment — bathroom vanity doors get a moisture-resistant finish and species choice to account for humidity without warping or sticking.
